His wise son Solomon was king after him, and was able to reign in a secure
kingdom in peace.
For God had given him rest roundabout that he might set up
a house for his name and prepare a sanctuary forever.
The Lord forgave him his sins, raising up his might for all time
and making a covenant with him.
Solomon: how wise you were in your youth. As the river waters the country,
so were you with your wise proverbs. All is fulfilled.
All the nations told of your proverbs, parables, and interpretations.
You were compared to the name of the Lord. You gathered as much gold as tin, and as much silver as lead.
Your heart was given over to women; you let yourself be subjected by them,
and blemished your honor. You squandered your strength,
bringing wrath onto your descendants because of your folly.
When the kingdom was divided, out of Ephraim ruled a disobedient kingdom.
But the Lord did not forsake his mercy, and was not willing to blot out
the descendants of Solomon; instead, he saved a remnant of Jacob, and a root of David.
