Two sorts of men commit many sins, and a third brings down punishment on himself.
He who is full of lust is a burning fire; he will not be quenched until he has consumed himself.
A fornicator in the body of his flesh will never cease until he has burned out the fire.
An immoral man finds all bread sweet; he will not leave off till he die.
Darkness is round about me, and the hands hide me so that no one sees me. Of what should I be afraid? The Most High, the Lord has eyes which are many thousands of times brighter than the sun. He sees everything, and he knew everything before it was ever created as though it had already come to pass.
This man will be punished publicly before he suspects it – so also the woman who betrays her husband and who brings in an heir by a stranger.
She was disobedient to the commandments and has sinned against her husband. She brought in children by a stranger, and not by her husband.
This kind of woman shall be brought before the congregation, and her children will have to do penance for her sins. They will not spread roots, and her branches will bear no fruit.
Her shame will remain and will not be blotted out.
This is how those who are left behind learn to fear God and to keep his commandments.
