That handkerchiefs or aprons which had touched him were taken to the sick, and they were cured of their illnesses, and the evil spirits came out of them.
But some itinerant Jewish exorcists also tried pronouncing the name of the Lord Jesus over people who were possessed by evil spirits and swore by Paul's sermons about Jesus. Among those who did this were seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish chief priest. But the evil spirits spoke:
I know Jesus well and Paul too, but who are you? And the evil spirit through itself at them so that they fled away naked and wounded
out of the house. The Ephesians learned of this and everyone was afraid, so they gave high praise to the name of Jesus. And many believers came.
And a number of them who had practiced magic collected their books and made a bonfire of them in public. The value of these was calculated to be fifty thousand silver pieces In this powerful way the word of the Lord spread more and more widely and successfully.
Paul set his mind to go to Macedonia and Achaia and to travel to Jerusalem and afterwards to see Rome. And he sent Timothy and Erastus to Macedonia. But he stayed for a while in Asia.
